Finding the ORAS Mega Stone Locations: The Ones You’re Actually Looking For

Finding the ORAS Mega Stone Locations: The Ones You’re Actually Looking For

Honestly, hunting down every single one of the ORAS mega stone locations feels a bit like a fever dream once you get into the post-game. You remember how in X and Y, they just kind of handed you a Lucarionite and said, "Have fun"? Yeah, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire aren't always that generous. Some of these stones are literally just sitting in the grass, while others require you to basically become a professional interior decorator or a pageant star.

If you're like me, you probably spent way too much time wandering around Route 114 trying to find that one guy who sells the "special" rocks. Or maybe you're currently banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why the Garchompite isn't showing up (spoiler: it’s because of the flags).

Let’s skip the fluff and get into where these things actually are.

The "Free" Stones You Can Grab Early

A lot of stones are just lying around once you have the right HM. Most people miss the Alakazite because it's tucked away in the Slateport City Market. You don't even need to talk to anyone; just look for the sparkling item on the ground in the bottom-left corner of the bazaar.

The Steelixite is another one you can grab surprisingly early if you’re brave enough to navigate Granite Cave. You'll need the Mach Bike to get to the lower floors ($B2F$), but it’s right there for the taking. Same goes for the Mawilite in Verdanturf Town. Just go to the bottom fence area and look for a little opening in the path.

The Mt. Pyre Haul

Mt. Pyre is basically a Mega Stone goldmine. If you head toward the summit, you’ll find the Banettite on the right side near the rubble. If you keep exploring the interior floors, specifically the fourth floor ($4F$), you’ll stumble onto the Medichamite.

  • Absolite: You need to head to the Safari Zone. It's on the west side, but don't forget your Acro Bike or you'll be staring at it from across a ledge like a chump.
  • Aggronite: This one is a reward for being a good person. Go to Rusturf Tunnel and smash the rocks blocking the path for the guy inside. He’ll give it to you as a thank you.

The Starter Paradox: Sceptilite, Blazikenite, and Swampertite

The game gives you the stone for your chosen starter on Route 120 from Steven. Easy. But what about the other two?

You have to wait until after the "Primal" event (subduing Groudon or Kyogre). Once that’s done, go to Route 114. There’s an old man there who sells "rare stones." He uses weird names like "Fading Fire" or "Withered Tree."

  • Fading Fire is the Blazikenite.
  • Withered Tree is the Sceptilite.
  • Ebb Tide is the Swampertite.

He charges a lot, but by that point in the game, you've probably got the cash.

The Ones That Make You Work For It

Now we get to the "annoying" tier of the ORAS mega stone locations. These aren't just lying on the ground.

Garchompite: The 1,000 Flag Nightmare

This is the one everyone complains about. To get the Garchompite, you have to reach Platinum Rank in the Secret Base Guild. That means you need to collect 1,000 flags from other people's Secret Bases.
Is it worth it? Honestly, Mega Garchomp is a beast, but 1,000 flags is a massive grind. Your best bet is to go to the Secret Base Guild in Fortree City and talk to Aarune once you've hit the milestone. Pro tip: talk to your "Secret Pals" in your own base; they can sometimes give you multiple flags at once.

Lucarionite: The Contest King

If you hate Pokémon Contests, I have bad news. To get the Lucarionite, you have to beat Lisia in a Master Rank contest. You basically have to win every single category at the Master level. Once you finally take down Lisia, a guy named Chaz will give you the stone in the Contest Hall.

Salamencite: The Post-Delta Prize

You can't get this until you finish the Delta Episode. Once the credits roll on that extra story, fly over to Meteor Falls. Look for Zinnia's grandmother—the old lady who tells you all the lore. Talk to her, and she’ll just give it to you. It’s one of the best Mega Evolutions in the game, so don't skip this.

Tracking Down the Kanto Starters

The Kanto stones are scattered all over Hoenn, usually in places that were previously inaccessible or just ignored.

  • Venusaurite: Go to Route 119. It’s sitting in the tall grass near the house where you rest.
  • Charizardite X: You’ll find this in the Fiery Path. You need Strength to push the boulders out of the way to reach the bottom-left corner.
  • Charizardite Y: This one is in the Scorched Slab on Route 120 ($B2F$).
  • Blastoisenite: You have to board the S.S. Tidal. It’s just sitting on the deck.

Locations for "The Rest"

Here is a quick rundown of the miscellaneous ones that often get forgotten:

  1. Beedrillite: Found in the storage room of Sea Mauville.
  2. Pidgeotite: This is a whole thing. You find a Shroomish for a girl in Verdanturf, get an "Intriguing Stone," then show it to Mr. Stone in Rustboro.
  3. Slowbronite: Go to Shoal Cave. Give the old man 4 Shoal Salts and 4 Shoal Shells (you'll have to visit during both high and low tide to get them all).
  4. Sablenite: In Sootopolis City, near the bridge that leads to the Cave of Origin.
  5. Lopunnite: Go to the second floor of Mauville City (Mauville Hills) and talk to the businessman in the suit twice. He’s usually standing near Apt. 12.

Actionable Next Steps

If you're trying to complete your collection, don't try to do them all at once. Start by finishing the Delta Episode first, as that unlocks the highest tier of stones like the Salamencite and Galladite.

Check your bag for the "Intriguing Stone" right now—if you have it, fly to Rustboro and get your Pidgeotite immediately. If you're going for the Garchompite, start adding QR codes for Secret Bases today, because that 1,000-flag grind takes weeks if you aren't consistent.
