Look, everyone wants diamonds in Tears of the Kingdom. They’re the gold standard for fusing powerful weapons and, let’s be real, you need a mountain of them if you want to upgrade the best armor sets like the Miner’s or the Deity gear. You could spend hours smashing random ore deposits and praying to Hylia for a lucky drop. Or, you could just go find a Rare Stone Talus.
These things are basically walking ATM machines. Unlike the standard Stone Talus or the Luminous variety, the totk rare stone talus locations are guarded by a creature with a glittering, gold-flecked ore deposit on its back. If you’re tired of being broke in Hyrule, these are the guys you need to bully every time a Blood Moon hits.
Where to Find Rare Stone Talus on the Surface
Hunting these can be a bit of a trek. You can't just stumble into them in the middle of Hyrule Field usually. Most are tucked away in the corners of the map where the environment is actually trying to kill you.
The Gerudo Highlands and Canyon
This is arguably the best region to start your farm. There are a couple of high-value spawns here that are relatively easy to reach once you have the Skyview Tower unlocked.
- Spectacle Rock: Right south of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower. You’ll see those two big circular rock formations. One of them is a Rare Stone Talus just waiting for you to glide down on it.
- Zirco Mesa: Head north of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower. It’s sitting up on the mesa near the Koukot Plateau.
- Taafei Hill Cave: This one is a bit more "hidden." It’s north of the Gerudo Tower. You have to go up the waterfall and into the cave. It’s a great spot because the cave also has a bunch of Glowfish and Bomb Flowers.
The Faron and Highland Regions
Faron is usually known for Hearty Durians (wait, RIP Durians) and Zonai ruins, but it’s actually a gold mine for Talus hunters.
- Lake Floria: Check the beach on the eastern side of the lake. It’s near the Lakeside Stable, making it a very quick teleport and ride.
- Guchini Plain: This one is east of the Highland Stable. It’s in the forested area before the jungle gets too thick. Honestly, it's easy to miss because of the trees.
- Lake of the Horse God: Right on the road south of Highland Stable. If you’re heading toward the Horse God Bridge, you’ll basically run right into it.
North and West Hyrule
- Drenan Highlands: This one is sitting west of the Thyphlo Ruins. It’s a bit out of the way, but if you’re already up north looking for Sage upgrades, it’s worth the stop.
- North Akkala Beach: Way up in the northeast, near the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. It’s on the beach northeast of the East Akkala Stable.
- Tanagar Canyon: Southwest of the Tabantha Bridge Stable. This one is tucked into the canyon floor.
Rare Stone Talus Locations in the Depths
The Depths are... well, they’re stressful. But if you want a complete circuit, you have to go down there. The Rare Stone Talus down here are "Gloom-infected," meaning they deal permanent damage if they hit you.
- Hebra Depths: At coordinates -4436, 3386, -0733.
- Central Hyrule Depths: Look around 0699, 0517, -0482. It's south of the Kato Lightroot.
- East Hill Chasm Area: South of the Zi-ner Lightroot.
The loot is the same, but the stakes are higher. Honestly, if you're just looking for quick cash, stick to the surface. The Depths versions are mostly for those trying to get the Talus Medal of Honor from Graler at Lookout Landing.
Why Rare Stone Talus are Better Than Ore Veins
It comes down to the math. A standard rare ore deposit has about a 3% chance to drop a diamond. That sucks. A Rare Stone Talus, however, has a massive 50% chance to drop a diamond in its primary loot table.
Often, you’ll get two.

Beyond diamonds, you’re guaranteed a "Rare Stone Talus Heart." Don’t sell this! It’s a fusion material with a +33 attack power. It’s basically a blunt-force hammer that never breaks off until the weapon itself dies. It turns any sturdy stick into a mining machine or a Lynel-crusher.
How to Kill Them Fast (The Pro Method)
Stop climbing them. Seriously.
If the ore deposit is on their "shoulder" or back, climbing is a nightmare because they just shake you off. Instead, use Ascend. Stand under their "crotch" area (I know, it's weird) and Ascend straight through their body. You'll pop out right on top of the weak point.
Once you’re up there, don’t just mash Y. Use a spin-to-win attack with a heavy blunt weapon. A Cobble Crusher or any weapon fused with a previous Talus Heart works best. You can usually delete their entire health bar in one cycle.
If they throw their arms at you? Use Recall. It hits them in the face and stuns them for a good five seconds.
The "Save Scum" Trick
If you’re really desperate for diamonds, save your game right before the fight starts. Kill the Talus. If it doesn't drop a diamond (or two), just reload that save. The loot isn't determined until the moment the Talus "dies." It takes an extra minute, but it guarantees your 5,000-rupee run.
Ramella in Goron City is your best friend after a farm. She buys gems in sets of 10 for a significantly higher price than general store owners. If you have 10 diamonds, she’ll give you 5,500 rupees. That’s a 500-rupee bonus just for being patient.
To make the most of your next Blood Moon, mark these spots on your map with the "ore" stamp. It makes your farming route much faster when you don't have to keep checking a guide. Start with the three Gerudo spawns, then hit the Faron trio. That’s six Rare Talus in under fifteen minutes. If you’re lucky, that’s 3,000 to 5,000 rupees every few hours of gameplay.
